Galileo's main Accomplishments
Galileo provided
the crucial observations that proved the heliocentric theory, and also laid the
foundations for a correct understanding of how objects moved on the surface of
the earth and of gravity. He also was the first to use his telescope to look at
the " heavens. " finding out that the Sun had dark patches on it that
we now call sunspots, the moons of Jupiter, and the phases of venues, just to
name a few. Without him looking through the equivalent of an amateur’s
telescope over 370 years ago we could still be run by the church like they were
back then. He literally changed the name of science and physics as we now know
it.
